In order to provide a better support for national technological innovation and economic growth as well as for patent examination, the SIPO always attaches great importance to the development of documentation and automation system. The SIPO has accumulated various information resources and built up an electronic search and management system after years of unremitting efforts.

The SIPO has now established a rich pool of information resources, such as the Patent Documentation Library, the Intellectual Property Library, the Science and Technology Library, and the Classified Patent Dossier Library, in possession of various patent documentation originated from 94 patent institutions and full-text patent descriptions on a variety of carriers published by 40 patent agencies, the volume amounted to about 40 million. Now, the SIPO has become one of the richest patent agency collectors for patent information resources in the World.
