What are Olympic IPRs?
 

Olympic IPRs are an unique group of IPRs, involving both the traditional IPR types, copyright, industrial property, trade secret and technology know-how, and the emerging ones, domain name and database, even those types exclusively existing under the Games. Most Olympic IPRs are in the form of symbols.

 

There are four main categories of Olympic IPRs£º

 

1) Exclusive rights of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The five Olympic rings, Olympic flag, Olympic motto, Olympic emblem and Olympic anthem.

 

2) Rights formed in the process of bidding, preparing and holding the Olympics and owned by the organizing committee. The emblem and symbols of the Olympic bidding and organizing committees.

 

3) Rights of national Olympic committees. Their names and symbols. Use of such rights shall comply with the IOC rules.

 

4) Olympics-related rights obtained by organizations and individuals obtained via legal channel.
