Patent Search Help

The database provides two search modes: Quick Search and Expression Search.

§ Specific Search Field

1. Application/ publication date

You can use one of two formats to search in any of the date fields :

<four digit year><two digit month><two digit day>: year must be a four-digit number(1999), month or day must be a two-digit number(10 or 05). For example, use “19991005” to retrieve documents filed or published on October 5, 1999.

<Year>.<Month>.<Day>: year must be a four-digit number(1999), month can be the number between 1 and 12, day can be the number between 1 and 31, there must be a dot(.) between year, month and day. For example, use “1999.10.5” to retrieve documents filed or published on October 5, 1999.

You can use the right truncation without truncation symbol. For example, if you are searching for the documents published on October 1999, you can enter “199910” or “1999.10”. If you are searching for the documents published on 1999, you can only enter “1999”.

You also can search for a range of dates using <to> between two dates. For example, if you are searching the documents published from 2000 to 2003, you can enter “2000 to 2003”.

2. Application/ publication number

The application number refers to the identification number assigned by the SIPO to applications which have received. The complete application number must be entered as a 8-digit string (yytnnnnn) or a 12-digit string (yyyytnnnnnnn). The “yy” or “yyyy” represents year. The “t” represents kind of application, “1” as invention and “2” as utility model. The “nnnnn” or “nnnnnnn” represents serial number of applications.

The publication number refers to the number assigned by the SIPO to documents that have published. The complete publication number must be entered as a 7-digit string (tnnnnnn). The “t” represents kind of application, “1” as invention and “2” as utility model. The “nnnnnn” represents sequence number of documents.

You can use a complete number to search in any of the number fields.

You also can use the right truncation with wildcard character “%” in your query. For example, if you search “012564%”, you will retrieve the documents with application number from 01256400 to 01256499.
